1. We have a family emergency back home and I need to get a hold of a Boys Stater. What do I do?

2. What is the mailing address of a Boys Stater?

3. Can I visit my son during Boys State?
Due to the intense schedule of Boys State, there is little opportunity for parents to meet their children. Citizens who check out of campus for family time often end up missing part of the program. However, if parents contemplate a visit, Thursday afternoon and/or evening is a very appropriate time. Parents get the opportunity to see the formal retreat ceremony, the last band concert, and attend the evening general assembly where state constitutional officers are sworn in.

4. Can I email a citizen?
There is little opportunity for citizens to check their email. Know that if an email is sent to a citizen, it may not be read.
5. When does the program end?
The program will end with the Final Awards Assembly on Friday morning. Citizens will be dismissed from there at about 11:30 AM. Since ALL busses will be present, it is vital that citizens listen carefully for returning bus instructions when you arrive. Optional sack lunches will be provided.
6. When is the first meal?
The first meal is at 6:00 pm on Saturday. You should plan your stomach accordingly.
7. What if a Boys Stater needs medical attention?
Boys State has an outstanding relationship with the Health Services Department of EIU. When appropriate, parents will be notified if medical attention is needed. In the case of emergency, the campus is minutes away from Sara Bush Lincoln Health Center and Hospital.

8. Are Boys Staters under supervision during the week?
Each dorm floor (known as a city at Boys State) will have at least one adult counselor and usually at least one assistant counselor. In addition, each county (comprised of four cities) has an adult county counselor and an adult assistant county counselor. There are also over 50 members of the administrative staff who assist in the supervision of Boys Staters. All organized activities of Boys Staters take place under the guidance and direction of adult supervision.
9. What is my child's phone number for the week?
The individual dorm rooms do not have telephones. Citizens may opt to bring their cell phone if they wish.
10. What if my son is home schooled. Can he participate?
There is nothing that excludes a home-schooled student from attending Boys State, as long as he meets the eligibility requirements.
11. How do I sign my son up for Boys State?
Most American Legion posts in the state of Illinois sponsor and pay for at least one local student to attend. Begin by contacting your local American Legion Post and arranging a meeting with the Boys State Coordinator of the post. You may also serve as the sponsor of your son if you wish to pay the $175 registration fee and provide transportation. Payment may be made by check or credit card.
