Sunday Afternoon Update
|
| Afternoons are always packed with activities at Boys State. While citizens can't participate in EVERYTHING, most citizens choose two or three activites of their preference. The afternoon began with tryouts for the Boys State Militia. An optional Catholic Mass was offered by one of our Boys State staff members who is not only a member of the Sons of the American Legion, he is a catholic priest as well. Tryouts for the county sports teams (basketball, football, softball and volleyball) encompassed the afternoon as well. Meanwhile, the band had its second practice, and the Boys State-ment (the Boys State newspaper) created their first edition of 2011. You can view the newspaper each day by clicking on "Daily Newspaper" above and then choose your day. Sunday's edition has been posted. After all that, citizens voted in their first election as a Boys State Citizen. Results for the city election will be posted on the website first thing tomorrow morning. Whew....a busy afternoon....but that's a typical day at Boys State. Finally.....time for supper..... |
When I first arrived at Boys State I was very hesitant as to what to expect and how my week would be. I knew the basics of the week, but was still unsure of how I would react in a completely new environment surrounded by hundreds of people who I have never met before. Needless to say the first days of my time here at Boys State have been great! I already know everyone in my city and have created friendships within in my county. Also I tried out for the Boys State Militia, something I knew nothing of going into it, and am now a part of it and look forward to working with the group of guys that made the squad. Overall my first two days have been exciting already rewarding and I am looking forward to the coming days as the Boys State government comes to a completion. |
