| It's another day FULL of activity at Boys State. County Caucuses were held last night, and the battle between the Nationalist and Federalist party continues. This morning, county candidates will get their chance to present their platforms to the entire county. In addition, each of the 32 City Councils will have their inaugural meeting. In the meantime, the State Central Committee for each party begin to organize their state party conventions which takes place Tuesday evening. The House of Representatives has its initial meeting to choose a Speaker and Clerk. Soon state legislation will be presented for debate. And that's just the morning..... |
To be completely honest, when I was invited to Boy’s State I really did not know what to think. When I got on the bus, I was not excited nor did I plan on getting involved in anything really. However, As soon as I got here I noticed that I was surrounded by people that I’m not normally around in my hometown of Monmouth, IL. The people here are extremely motivated and actually want to be involved. At Boy’s State I was pushed by my friends to quickly be involved. In the span of about one day I went from a bystander to Mayor and Party Chairman. I planned on stopping there. But then overnight, with help from my extremely persistent friends, I ended up becoming the County Party Chairman and a State’s Attorney Nominee. In the upcoming days I plan to run for Lieutenant Governor. Although at this point it’s only been two days, my Boy’s State Experience has already changed my life. I’ve already become a more involved person and quickly gotten better with my public speaking skills. I’m truly lucky to have gotten the experience to go to Boy’s State. |
