There's no time for rest in the afternoon at Boys State. County elections are this afternoon, and the Public Affairs competition begins this afternoon as well. Click here to see the Public Affairs topic for 2010. Inter-county sports competition begins later this afternoon, as well as the initial session of the Boys State Police. Tonight is a special night for Boys Staters, as Illinois Governor Pat Quinn will be tonight's guest speaker. Pictures below include some from last night's Memorial Service.

Walking in late to the first day of the Boy's State, I was thrown into a whirlwind of activity and felt lost in the hustle and bustle of 600 people trying to figure out what to do. However, even with this confusion, the first night I ran for Party Chair of the Nationalist party and won. The highlights of my Boy's State experience so far are my awesome volleyball team, the applause for the remaining World War II Veterans, and marching with my county through the quad. I felt really touched when we recognized the service that the World War II veterans gave to our the United States and its people. Although this is only my second day here at Boy's State, I feel as though I have already spent a lifetime with my fellow citizens. The friendships, alliances, and rivalries that seem to have come out of nowhere have driven my Boy's State experience so far. Things at Boy's State seem to move slowly while you are doing them but the days fly.  Here there are so many opportunities to expand our horizons intellectually, socially, and emotionally. This has been a great way to spend the first days of my summer and I know that it will only get better from here.
