Sunday Evening Update

My apologies, but due to technical difficulties, we are unable to post city election results at this time. We hope to post them first thing in the morning. In addition, we will update pictures as well.
In the meantime, while we are extremely excited and impressed with this new generation of proud Americans, tonight we take time out to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the past at an all-state Memorial Service..."Their Names Will Live For All Generations."

Over the course of the week at Boys State last year, I learned much about myself and true leadership. I came to Boys State with little confidence in what I would be able to do here. However, as soon as I got here I was encouraged to "get involved!" I did and was never disappointed with the results. I decided to run for City Party chairman on the first night; a decision that led me to the position of State Party Chairman and Boys Nation Senator. Along this path I found that the true leaders that people looked to were the people who did what needed to be done and were not proud, but did what they could for the betterment of Boys State, in their cities, counties and state. Those who encouraged others to participate and run for positions were they would help most were greatly respected, as well. Leadership, then, is not about making yourself look impressive, but seeking to better the group you have been placed in charge of. I fully believe that Boys State provided me with a clear vision of what true leadership is and how to better lead those around me. As a Boys State alum, I want to encourage all current, and future, citizens to get involved where they think they can best influence the Boys State program. This program gives everyone an excellent and fun opportunity to learn about leadership, meet other young men you will come to respect and learn about yourself. I hope that all who attend Boys State find it as helpful as I did, but the only way for this to happen is to take ownership for yourself. GET INVOLVED!!! If you do, you will find out much about yourself and those around you and have one of the most impacting weeks of your life.
