Sunday Afternoon Update

Morning is work...and afternoon is fun. Each county is holding athletic tryouts for inter-county competition in basketball, flag football, soccer, softball, and volleyball. In addition, some are preparing their essays ($1500 scholarship competition), orations ($1500 scholarship competitions), and of course, campaign speeches. Band continues their rehearsal throughout the afternoon when members are available for practice. City Elections are at 5:00 pm today.

Attending Boy's State last year was one of the greatest honors that I have ever undertook.  I look around me and I see potential leaders, like those engraved in Boy's State History, such as Bill Clinton, Dick Cheney, or Tom Brokaw.  The experience of Boy's State not only facillitated any personal leadership development, but invoked a communal community interest into bettering ourselves.  If I can make a difference, as the 2009 Model Citizen, I would try to inspire future students to take pride in what they do.  Everything Boy's State represents, from what I have gathered from my experience, revolves around the betterment of individuals based on communal pride in what everyday citizens find commonplace.  From things from flag raising to singing group songs at assemblies, any Boy's State citizen is bound to find something that they can invest something of themselves into and reap a bountiful harvest of experience and fond memories.  I wouldn't give the world to give up Boy's State.
