|
Thursday Morning Update |
| It's the BIG day at Boys State. City governments are in action. County governments are in action. The Senate and House are in full force preparing bills for the Governor to sign. In the meantime, the polls open at 10:15 for the State General Election. Election results will be posted with the Thursday PM update. This afternoon, the Freedom Express makes a visit to Boys State. State champions in each of the five team sports will be determined in the playoffs. The State Police, Leadership 101, Senate, and House of Representatives. Finally, the first $1500 scholarship will be awarded to the winner of the oration contest. The finals for this competition are also held this afternoon. This morning we feature more pictures from Leadership 101. |
Upon arrival, I went through about half an hour of lines, and I was very anxious about the upcoming week. I didn't get to meet my room mate yet because he had not arrived. So I went down to the Quad and asked if I could play sports, and the other citizens were very open and accepting. After a while, i attended a city caucus, and once Dan Liedke came in and broke the ice, it was all smooth from there. From there on out, it has been a fun, exciting, and yet exhausting ride, whether it has been in attending the general assemblies (like the one which the Governor attended) or waking up at 6:30 for flag raising. I would encourage any boy to attend Boys State because it is impossible to be bored here. You really have to try to be bored. This experience has, in general, made me a better person by enhancing my leadership and cooperation/communication skills. |
