WELCOME TO BOYS STATE 2010 LIVE!

Thursday Evening Update

The elections are over. Government operations begin to shut down. Six days ago, over 580 junior boys in high school embarked on a journey to Eastern Illinois University for this camp called Boys State. Six days later, they've created and operated a city government, a county government, and a state government. They created campaign teams, ran elections, tallied the votes, met and made friends with people from places they never heard of in Illinois. Illinois Boys State was founded on a philosophy of 'learn by doing.' They learned the ups and downs of government, politics, and most important, learned that they need to get involved. As Governor Quinn reminded us on Monday: "WE are the government." Tonight's closing ceremonies focus on the dream...the dream that will never die. Tomorrow morning the scholarship winners for 2010 will be posted following the final assembly.
