Upon arrival at Boys State, I was greete by a very charismatic roommate. I had arrived late, and by the way he talked, I felt that I was going to understand absolutely nothing that took place at Boys State. I was pretty much ready to go home; however, after meeting many new people, I started to feel Lawson Hall to be my second home. The other fellows in my county are all very intelligent and talented, and everyone is so unique. I feel that this has been one of the best weeks of my life. I started here with nothing but my packed items, and I am leaving here with friendships beyond measure. I have experienced almost everything from sitting through long city council meetings to being chased by an elected officer, tackled and handcuffed by a sheriff about twice my size, tried and charged with producing flatulence in a room (which was against city law) and evading police, and released with a punishment of thirty push-ups. Needless to say, it has been neither all fun nor all work. When marching and chanting cadences, all of us citizens were very serious, but when we had free time, we were wild. Although I lost every race that I participated in for a candidacy, but I still had a wonderful, unforgettable time. As a note for all future Boys State citizens, do not fret. If the week starts out rough, it will surely change. Your life will take an about-face, and heading in a completely new direction that you never dreamed before. You will not regret coming to Boys State, ever. |
