When I first came to boys state and saw who was here, I was like, “What did I get myself into?” I felt like I was a hick from the sticks and I was going to have the worst week of my life. The first day it got to be a little better after I found out that everybody was cool. Then on the second day, I felt like I had known these kids all my life and from then on it has been a blast. This has been the most diverse crowd that I have ever been around and it’s been a cultural awakening for me. This has been one of the best experiences of my life and it will never be forgotten. I think one day I would love to come back as a counselor and re-experience this from the other side of things. Marvin Finfrock III I came to Illinois Premier Boys State not knowing what I was getting myself into. I had no information other than my mom an alum of Girls State telling me that it was a great experience. She was right, this has been one of the greatest weeks of my life. Here at Boys State there has been many great guys that support each other in each election even if they were the person that they were running against.
I have learned more about the government this week than my whole semester of government in my junior year. In conclusion Illinois Premier Boys State was a great program that I will promote as soon as I get home. I plan on becoming part of the Boys State Alumni Association and I plan on being a citizen for the rest of my life. |
