Planned supervised recreation is an important part of the Boys State experience.  Organized intramural athletic competition is held between counties in basketball, soccer, softball, flag football, and volleyball.

In addition, a variety of facilities are available at Eastern Illinois University, including table tennis, chess, checkers, swimming, tennis, track wrestling, and the use of EIU's renowned fitness center.
